General X-Rays |
| |
X-ray pictures of the inside of the body give information that cannot be obtained by simple physical examination, e.g., bone fracture , tumour, and many other conditions. We are in the process of upgrading to digital x-rays that will allow the X-ray pictures to be sent to your doctor’s computer directly or on CD. Digital X-rays also allows consultation with other doctors over the internet, if necessary. |
| |
Mammograms |
| |
This is a low dose X-rays of the breast, aimed at picking up early evidence of breast cancer. It is recommended that all women age 35-40, begin a regular program of screening for early evidence of breast cancer. This screening program includes having a mammogram every 1-2 years (see recommendations of the American Cancer Society). |

CT Scans |
| |
Computerized Tomography (CT or CAT) scanning, is a form of x-ray examination the can give significantly more information than a plain x-ray can. Introduced in 2000, Eureka Medical Clinic was the first to provide CT Scanning services in the British Virgin Islands, thereby significantly raising the standard of medical diagnostics in territory. |

Ultrasound Scans (sonograms) |
| |
First introduced into the BVI by Dr. Heskith Vanterpool in 1987,( training and first ultrasound machine- compliments of Dr. Rodney Ellis of Toronto Canada), diagnostic ultrasound scanning has become an essential investigation in virtually all areas of medicine/surgery. Eureka Medical Clinic provides a wide range of ultrasound examinations, with top quality ultrasound machines and a full array of the appropriate ultrasound probes.
We provide the following types of ultrasound scans: |
| |
 |
Obstetric (pregnancy) scans. |
| |
 |
Pelvic (gynecological) –trans-abdominal and trans-vaginal scans. |
| |
 |
Abdominal Scans- gallbladder, liver, pancreas, kidneys, abdominal vessels, etc. |
| |
 |
Trans-rectal scans- for prostate guided biopsies. |
| |
 |
Breast scans (sono-mammograms). |
| |
 |
Small Parts- thyroid, testicle). |
| |
 |
Vascular Scans. |
| |
- Carotid arteries and other arteries
- Venous Scans - for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) - for Venous reflux (Varicose veins disease)
|

MRI Scans |
| |
The availability Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the BVI has removed one of the reasons the patients from these islands frequently had to go overseas for medical care. In June 2008, Eureka MRI celebrated its first anniversary of MRI scanning.
MRI uses a very strong magnetic field to produce images of inside of the body part examined. It can reveal abnormalities which may have been missed by other forms of imaging, such as x-rays, CT, ultrasound, etc. An additional advantage of MRI over x-ray and CT is that Magnetic resonance involves no harmful radiation. |
| |
| MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) |
| |
Is a special MRI examination of the blood vessels MRA of the Neck (Carotid and Vertebral Arteries) and MRA of the Brain are available at Eureka. |
| |
Bone Density Scans |
| |
Bone mineral density (BMD) scans are performed to assess the skeleton for signs of osteoporosis, and the risk of fractures. At Eureka Medical Clinic, we offer hip, spine and pelvic DEXA scans , which is the gold standard for BMD scanning. This method of testing assesses the global and site-specific fracture risk , identifies which patients can benefit from treatment and is used for follow-up assessment. |
